HOUSTON (April 30, 2008) – More than 500 Eagle Scouts gathered in one of Continental Airlines’ newest hangars at George Bush Intercontinental Airport for the first ever Sam Houston Area Council Gathering of Eagles, at the invitation of co-chairmen Eagle Scout Larry Kellner, chairman and chief executive officer of Continental Airlines, Inc. and Eagle Scout Frank Tsura, president and chief executive officer of Momentum Energy Group. “We hope this will be the beginning of a Sam Houston Area Council association of Eagle Scouts,” said Kellner in his opening remarks.
The program for the evening hallmarked the prominence of Eagle Scouts in Texas business and leadership, with the keynote address delivered by Eagle Scout and Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, followed by presentations by Eagle Scouts Giff Neilson, KHOU-TV sports anchor, and Tom Varnell, scout executive for the Sam Houston Area Council.
“We are here from several foreign countries and many states and cities…many faiths and virtually every occupation, vocation and profession,” said Kellner in his introduction, and yet as Eagle Scouts we have a single, common bond.
